About Lara Owen

I’m an author, teacher, and consultant, and I work with individuals, the creative professions, and spiritual organizations.

photo-371My main areas of expertise are holistic spiritual practice, women’s spirituality and well-being, relationship dynamics, and creative process.

My books include Her Blood Is Gold: Awakening to the Wisdom of Menstruation (first published in 1993 by Harper Collins, reissued by Archive Publishing, 2008), and Love Begins at 40: A Guide to Starting Over (Hay House, 2008). My next book, Growing Your Inner Light: A Guide to Independent Spiritual Practice, is due to be published in November 2009 by Beyond Words/Atria Books (Simon and Schuster).

My background includes working as a youth counselor, a doctor of Chinese medicine, a psychotherapist, and a television producer.  I co-founded one of the first holistic health centers in the UK in my early 20’s, and since then I’ve lectured internationally on healthcare, spirituality, psychology, astrology, and creative process. My work is influenced and enriched by study in several esoteric and spiritual traditions, in particular indigenous nature-based traditions and Tibetan Buddhism. I’m interested in how we can best integrate time-honored wisdom with contemporary knowledge and needs.

I was born in England, have traveled widely, and have lived in the US and France. I now live in southwest England.
